The surrounding area is famous for its karst scenery, terrain with the distinctive characteristics of relief and drainage resulting from the dissolution of soluble rocks such as limestone and dolomite. The village derives its English name from Moon Hill, or Yueliang Shan, a limestone hill topped with a natural archway. The nearby city of Guilin and the town of Yangshuo are among China's most visited destinations, both by foreign and domestic tourists, but Moon Hill Village lies far enough away from them to be still capable of presenting an authentic glimpse of rural life, without presenting any challenges to actually getting there. |
