Bario - Malaysia

Bario is a remote and isolated settlement in the Kelabit Highlands of Sarawak, one of the East Malaysian states on the island of Borneo.  It is an ideal destination for trekking in the surrounding mountainous rain forests and for experiencing the hospitality and unique culture of the indigenous Kelabit people. Many people still live in the traditional style communal longhouse.

Bario is only accessible by air; on a one-hour flight in a 20-seater Twin Otter operated by MASWings, the rural air services of Malaysian Airlines.  After a spectacular flight over the rainforest-covered mountains, you'll be met at the tiny airport by the local homestay operators who will offer you accommodation and arrange your activities.
